Hi, I’m JoQuan — the person behind The Pick Log.

The Pick Log is my honest guide to AI tools and software that actually work. No hype, no regurgitated spec sheets, no “top 10” lists I haven’t verified myself. Every tool I write about has been opened, tested, and pushed past its marketing claims before it earns a spot here.

Why I Started This Site

I’ve spent the last few years drowning in tools. Every week a new AI app, productivity suite, or “game-changing” piece of software promises to save me hours. Most of them don’t. A few of them genuinely do.

The problem is that the internet is full of reviews written by people who have never actually used the product. They summarize the landing page, sprinkle in some keywords, and call it a review. That’s how people end up paying for tools that don’t solve their problem.

I started The Pick Log to fix that — to be the source I wished existed when I was researching my own tools.

How I Review Tools

Every review on this site follows the same process:

Hands-on testing. I install it, sign up for the free tier (or trial), and actually use it for real work — not just click through a demo.
Real-world scenarios. I test tools the way a normal person would use them, not the way a vendor demo shows them.
I pay attention to the downsides. Every tool has weaknesses. If I don’t tell you about them, I’m not doing my job.
I update my opinions. Tools change fast. When a review is outdated, I go back and re-test.

AI Tools — writing assistants, chatbots, image generators, and AI productivity apps. Tested for what they actually do, not what their press releases claim.
Software — productivity suites, security tools, VPNs, and the utilities that quietly make work easier.

These two categories aren’t random. They serve the same person: someone who wants to work smarter and isn’t afraid to try a new tool to get there.
